New contest: "The Black Hawk" by Joanna Bourne

ETA (7/4/13): This contest is closed. Kylan won the book! A new contest (for Cecilia Grant’s A Lady Awakened) will open on Monday 7/8.

Do I even need to say anything about this book? Or can I just link to the 2012 AllAboutRomance reader poll, in which this book won in SEVEN CATEGORIES?

I’ll just list those categories, shall I?

Best Romance
Best Historical Romance Not Set in the U.K.
Biggest Tearjerker (Tied with Eloisa James’s When Beauty Tamed the Beast)
Best Romance Hero
Best Romance Heroine
Most Kickass Heroine
Best Romance Couple

So there you have it. Personally, I imagine it had to be a close-run thing in Best Love Scenes too. That one with the tree in the rain…let’s just say I remember it very vividly.

It also won a RITA.

I can see that I was equally tongue-tied in my goodreads review, which reads simply “★★★★★ It was wonderful to see more of Justine and Adrian. I love these characters so much, and they love each other so much, and <333! I’ve been waiting for this book a long time, and it was worth it!” Yeah, that about sums it up.

book cover: A man in a red-lined cloak and open but tucked in shirt
He is her enemy.
He is her lover.
He is her only hope.
Someone is stalking agent Justine DeCabrillac through London’s gray streets. Under cover of the rain, the assassin strikes–and Justine staggers to the door of the one man who can save her. The man she once loved. The man she hated. Adrian Hawkhurst.

Adrian wanted the treacherous beauty known as “Owl” back in his bed, but not wounded and clinging to life. Now, as he helps her heal, the two must learn to trust each other to confront the hidden menace that’s trying to kill them–and survive long enough to explore the passion simmering between them once again…

If you haven’t read a book by Joanna Bourne yet, I’d actually recommend starting at the beginning–but enter this contest anyway because you’ll get through the first three in a week and then you’ll want this one!

Just comment on this post to enter, and make sure you enter your e-mail address on the comment form–it won’t show up to other commenters, but I’ll get it and then I can easily notify you of your win. As always, if you want to be alerted when a new contest goes up, I recommend signing up for my newsletter.

NB: this is a copy I got signed at the RWA National Conference. Ms. Bourne isn’t involved in the giveaway and the book isn’t personalized. So if you want to tell her how much you loved her book, this isn’t the place. That would be her website. (But this IS the place to tell ME how much you loved it!)

    1. You are missing out! 🙂 “My Lord and Spymaster,” the second book, is probably my favorite, but they’re all amazing. Good luck!

  1. Hi Rose!
I loved finding out more about Joanna’s book The Black Hawk. I love her books and can’t believe I missed reading it when it was released.
I love the situations that Joanna presents to her characters and she really not only draws you into their lives but her books are impossible to put down until you find out their story turns out!

    1. I was waiting for that one–I adored Adrian from page 1. What a darling! JB really is a brilliant writer.
      Good luck!

  2. I have not read her books before, but I have heard a lot about this one and I would love to read it.

  3. I love Jo Bourne’s books…but due to me not predicting the internet would steal my job, I am currently not able to purchase books, and there is a CRAZY long waiting list at my local library. Suffice it to say, I would love to read “The Black Hawk”.
But whoever wins, ENJOY! It will be a fantastic read.

    1. It’s a testament to how awesome this book is that it still has a long library waitlist so long after its release! Good luck. 🙂

  4. I have loved Joanne Bourne for so long. I’m glad that your contest is inspiring people to consider her books. I, too, couldn’t wait to hear the resolution of Adrian’s story. (Bid, try checking your library’s ability to offer electronic borrowing. You don’t need a Kindle or other reader, just a computer.)

  5. I would really like to read this book, especially since it was a winner in so many categories. It sounds like one I would enjoy.

  6. Hi,
I came across this because Jo Bourne re-tweeted it, so here I am.
I first fell in love with Adrian in The Forbidden Rose, where he was still a boy and like a raw diamond. But I already saw great potential in him. And do I need to point out that Doyle got me hooked right away, too? In the sceond book Grey fascinated me, and Annique must probably be one of my favorite characters on the female side, followed by Justine. But what I love most about all the books in the Spymaster series is that we get to gradually know Adrian better and better even when he’s not the main hero and my love for him grew with that. The Black Hawk was the cream on the top of the cake for me because it finally told us Adrian’s story and Justine’s story – and lead me to re-read the other books to catch all the little tie-ins Adrian’s and Justine’s shared past have in the other books as well. I don’t want to write spoilers but if you read TBH carefully you’ll find several hints to the previous books in it that makes reading all of them a wonderful whole.
I’d love to have this book because I have to thank a very dear friend of mine for discovering Jo Bourne’s book. She pointed me to them and now we are both madly in love with them. A signed copy would be awesome for her as a birthday gift, something really special, even if it’s not personalized. This would be so very cool.
I’m in Germany, though, so am not sure about postage. But I’m willing to pay for the airmail etc.

    1. If I draw your name out of the magic hat I would be happy to ship to Germany! Good luck. 🙂 You intrigue me…my TBR pile is out of control but I’ve been wanting to go back and reread My Lord and Spymaster–it’s probably my favorite and I remember Adrian and Doyle being such sweethearts in it!

  7. OMG! All those category wins and a RITA?! How wonderful! This is a book I’d definitely love to read. I enjoy Historical romance and HAWK appeals to me greatly. I will order it if I don’t win. Super excited about this book! Thanks!

  8. Love this book, and was just thinking about wanting to re-read, so perfect timing! Justine and Adrian have such a great dynamic together.
I’m in Australia though, so I’m not sure if this is open for international addresses, but I thought I’d put my name in just in case!

  9. I have also posted HUGE fangirl love for this book – my top read of 2012. The idea of a signed copy definitely gives goosebumps! Only thing better would be getting her to sign a copy in person. Fingers crossed!

  10. I read it at the recommendation of blogger Badass Romance, and Loved It! But, I have an ebook, so a hard copy will let me share the love, which I am dying to do.

  11. Wow! So many awards – gotta read this one! Sounds quite exciting and I’m curious to find out why an assassin is after Justine.

  12. I have put off purchasing this book because I have too large a TBR pile (according to my husband, to me it could always have more!).

    1. Ooh, have you not read them?? I think you would really love them. The second one is my very favorite but they’re all great.

  13. Is this contest open also to people living in Europe?
I have The Spymaster’s Lady on my TBR list, so I’d really enjoy having this, too.

  14. Hi,
I really loved In for a Penny and I’m looking forward to Sweet Disorder.
I don’t know Bourne, but I’d like to try a new author.
    Thanks,
    Patty

  15. I really enjoy Joanna Bourne’s books. After reading so many regency books, it’s a nice change of pace to read about the French Revolution.
