New contest: [REDACTED]'s "Conspiracy Friends: Vol. 1"

ETA: This contest is now closed. DebraG won the book!

This month I’m giving away a signed, limited-edition-hardcover copy of Matt Youngmark’s Conspiracy Friends, Volume 1: Clandestine Maneuvers in the Dark.

Conspiracy Friends is one of my favorite webcomics, about friends who investigate conspiracies together!

In Volume 1 you get to see it all from the beginning, as Tim tries to start a Conspiracy Club, but that doesn’t work out, but he DOES meet Wendigo Penelope, maybe the coolest person ever? I love Tim and Wendigo Penelope SO MUCH. I kind of ship it, honestly, although Wendigo Penelope has said she isn’t interested and I respect that.

You can also read the comic online here (or start from the beginning).

Full disclosure: Matt is a friend of mine and the designer of my stylish “The butler did her!” buttons. (He’s also running a kickstarter right now for Volume 3: Hot Vatican Nights, so if this seems like your thing, pledge today! 馃檪

Included with the book are: 5×7 tie-in print of the Loch Ness monster subtitled “COME AT ME BRO”, set of character buttons, and one of my own Listen to the Moon buttons!

51bOIqCM1FL._SX490_BO1,204,203,200_All Tim wants is to find friends among like-minded conspiracy enthusiasts. But when Wendigo Penelope shows up at Conspiracy Club, the black helicopters follow, and they soon find themselves on the run from shadowy forces they can鈥檛 begin to comprehend. Along with semi-competent CIA operative Steve and beleaguered newspaper intern Marcie, Wendigo and Tim will have to unravel a web of intrigue that leads them deeper and deeper into the belly of the beast (which is a pretty mixed metaphor, but trust us, that鈥檚 the least of their problems). CLANDESTINE MANEUVERS IN THE DARK collects the first six chapters of the Conspiracy Friends webcomic, and includes a 5-page bonus story available exclusively in this book.

New contest: Sonali Dev's "A Bollywood Affair"

ETA: This contest is now closed. Carol L. won the book.

This month, since Sonali Dev’s sophomore romance The Bollywood Bride is out, I’m giving away a signed copy of her first book, along with a Bride bookmark and two of the bangles Sonali was giving away at RWA this summer (worn below by spokesmodel T-Rex)!

I absolutely adored this book. A fantastic romantic-comedy vibe, deep emotion, and well-done angst combine brilliantly. The Big Mis never got annoying and I cried several times. To no one’s surprise, I especially loved Samir cooking for Mili! I recommend you order takeout BEFORE you start reading, because this book will make you hungry.

Back cover copy:

Mili Rathod hasn鈥檛 seen her husband in twenty years—not since she was promised to him at the age of four. Yet marriage has allowed Mili a freedom rarely given to girls in her village. Her grandmother has even allowed her to leave India and study in America for eight months, all to make her the perfect modern wife. Which is exactly what Mili longs to be—if her husband would just come and claim her.

Bollywood鈥檚 favorite director, Samir Rathod, has come to Michigan to secure a divorce for his older brother. Persuading a naive village girl to sign the papers should be easy for someone with Samir鈥檚 tabloid-famous charm. But Mili is neither a fool nor a gold-digger. Open-hearted yet complex, she鈥檚 trying to reconcile her independence with cherished traditions. And before he can stop himself, Samir is immersed in Mili鈥檚 life—cooking her dal and rotis, escorting her to her roommate鈥檚 elaborate Indian wedding, and wondering where his loyalties and happiness lie.

Some very special news: To celebrate the rerelease, the e-book is on sale for just 99垄. Tell your friends!

Some people liked this book! NYT Bestselling Author Courtney Milan said, “I loved it, even more than I loved In for a Penny…most of all, for a heroine who is independent and prickly and yet wonderful all at the same time.”

AnimeJune wrote, “Solomon Hathaway is a prince among men. A prince among heroes! He cooks, he sews, he makes hot chocolate, he knows his way around a vial of hydrochloric acid, he has impeccable fashion sense, he’s sweet and lovely and all that is good. He is wonderful.”

And Stephanie Samphire said, “It鈥檚 all zany and fun and it moves at an incredible pace…but here鈥檚 what is my very, very favorite thing of all about the book: Solomon and Serena really, really like each other.”

Nor has she forgotten the drunken young gentleman who gave her the means to start her long, tortuous climb out of the gutter. New contest: "Fool Me Twice" by Meredith Duran

ETA: This contest is now closed. jcp won the book!

Duran’s Lady Be Good (about an ex-thief trying to go straight, who must do one last job for an aristocratic and very angsty veteran) smashed my reading slump into bits at RWA, and I can’t wait to read the next one, about the ice queen manager of the auction house, so I thought this would be a good time to give away a signed-by-the-author copy of book 2 in the series and a 2015 RITA winner, Fool Me Twice!

Spokesmodel T-Rex (not included in giveaway) poses as the dashing, dangerous but agoraphobic slob, Alastair Marwick.

A LADY WITH A SECRET

Running for her life, exhausted and out of options, Olivia Holladay wants nothing more than the chance to make a home for herself. So when she realizes that the infamous Duke of Marwick might hold the key to her freedom, she boldly disguises herself as the newest and bravest in a long line of the duke鈥檚 notoriously temperamental housekeepers. Little does she know that the wickedly handsome Alastair de Grey has very different plans for her.

A MAN WITH A PASSION—FOR VENGEANCE

As his new employee, Olivia is a fearless upstart. As a woman, the daring redhead is just what Alastair needs to rouse him from darkness to the siren call of revenge. He has suffered a betrayal so deep that he will use whatever means necessary to destroy his enemies鈥攅ven his brazen and beautiful domestic. But his vengeful plan fails to account for his single weakness: an irresistible and growing passion for the enigmatic Olivia.

What is it about “I am pretending to be his housekeeper and out of sheer frustration bring his horrible house into spotless order” stories that I am such a sucker for???? I don’t know but I love it every time. Put-upon competence is my thing, I guess, which is why I love Captain America so much. But seriously, this book is amazing and the romantic tension is some of the best I’ve ever read. Read my full flaily Goodreads review (including a trigger warning).

Contest rules:

1. Comment on this post to enter.
2. The winner will be chosen at random using random.org.
3. US and Canada only.
4. Open for entries through August 28th, 2015. [NB: I’m changing up my contest rules a little so they only run for a week. Contests will still be more or less monthly. I’m making this change because the first week is when I get all my entries anyway, so it shouldn’t actually affect anyone but should just let me get the book out to the winner sooner. But I point it out because I don’t want you to think I’m trying to pull a fast one.]
5. I got this book signed at a conference. Meredith isn鈥檛 involved in the giveaway.

Hey all! I realized I never properly celebrated In for a Penny‘s paperback release…so, I’m giving away a signed personalized copy.

If you haven’t read it, this was my first book, and some people liked it!

In for a Penny is a charming and original Regency that will make you wish a man like Nev would stroll through your front door.” —Eloisa James for the Barnes & Noble Review.

“Georgette Heyer watch out! With believable characters and a keen eye for period detail, Rose Lerner serves up a sprightly and splendid take on the classic marriage of convenience plot. Not to be missed by fans of the Regency romance.” —Lauren Willig, NYT Bestselling Author

“It basically restored my faith in Historical Romance…I loved this novel so much and can鈥檛 wait to read more from Rose Lerner—I welcome the author to the genre with open arms. More please!” —Ana, The Book Smugglers.

And maybe my very favorite review ever:

“[A] Georgette Heyer style historical romance but with sex & explicit fellatio…” —seton, Goodreads.

InForAPenny500The back-cover copy:

Lord Nevinstoke revels in acting the young wastrel, until his father is killed in a drunken duel. Never one to do anything halfway, Nev throws off his wild ways to shoulder a mountain of responsibility—and debt—vowing to marry a rich girl and act the respectable lord of the manor. Manufacturing heiress Penelope Brown seems the perfect choice for a wife. She’s pretty, proper, and looking for a husband.

Determined to rise above her common birth, Penelope prides herself on her impeccable behavior and good sense. Grand Passion? Vulgar and melodramatic. Yes, agreeing to marry Nev was a rare moment of impulse, yet she’s sure they can build a good marriage based on companionship and mutual esteem.

But when they arrive at the manor, they’re overwhelmed with half-starved tenants, a menacing neighbor, and the family propensity for scandal. As the situation deteriorates, the newlyweds have nowhere to turn but to each other. To Penelope’s surprise, she begins to fervently hope that her first taste of Grand Passion in her husband’s arms won’t be her last.

New contest: "Summer is for Lovers" by Jennifer McQuiston

ETA: This contest is closed. Earlene won the book!

With summer just around the corner in the Northern Hemisphere, I thought this was a good time to give away a signed copy of a unique historical I just read by Jennifer McQuiston: Summer is for Lovers.

Pictured: Spokesmodel T-Rex (not included in giveaway) chilling at the Brighton Pavillion (also not included) with Summer is for Lovers (included) and a romantic picnic for a lady or gentleman friend (not included).

Background image credit: Jagandrk via Wikimedia Commons.

The book (linked to McQuiston’s first book, What Happens in Scotland, but I’m not sure how because I haven’t read that one yet) is set in 1840s Brighton, and the heroine is a swimmer!!!! Jen did an amazing job of giving things a historical feel while still being very relatable—for example, there’s one scene where the popular girl throws a party while her father’s out of town, and everyone plays naughty party games, wrecks the house, and smokes up. I felt like I was reading historical Judy Blume in the best possible way! The swimming is delightful, the romance is hot, Caroline was a wonderful heroine, and I definitely cried at some of the family stuff at the end.

The back-cover copy:

His heart is unavailable. Luckily, her interest lies in the rest of him…

Though she was just a girl when they first met, Caroline Tolbertson’s infatuation with David Cameron remains undimmed. Now fate has brought the handsome Scotsman back to Brighton for what promises to be an unforgettable summer. Soon, Caroline will have to choose a husband, but for now she is free to indulge her curiosity in things of a passionate nature.

That is, if David will agree to teach her.

Past mistakes have convinced David he’ll make a terrible husband, though he’ll gladly help the unconventional Caroline find a suitor. Unfortunately, she has something more scandalous in mind. As the contenders for her hand begin to line up, her future seems assured…provided David can do the honorable thing and let them have her.

When a spirited young woman is determined to break Society’s rules, all a gentleman can do is lend a hand…or more.

New contest: Victoria Dahl's "Too Hot to Handle" and Lauren Dane's "The Best Kind of Trouble"

ETA: This contest is now closed. Ada won the books!

Hi all! This month’s giveaway is a sexy feminist contemporary two-fer. I’ve got a signed copy of Victoria Dahl’s Too Hot to Handle and a Dahl Looking for Trouble button that says “You’re a nice girl who likes to have dirty sex, aren’t you?”, plus Lauren Dane’s (unsigned) The Best Kind of Trouble.

Too Hot to Handle is the second book in Victoria’s Jackson Hole series:

This good girl’s finally going bad…

TooHotToHandleTinyMerry Kade has always been the good girl. The best friend. The one who patiently waits for the guy to notice her. Well, no more. Merry has just scored her dream job, and it’s time for her life to change. As the new curator of a museum in Wyoming, she’ll supervise some—okay, a lot of—restoration work. Luckily she’s found the perfect contractor for the job, and even better, he lives right next door.

Shane Harcourt can’t believe that someone wants to turn a beat-up ghost town into a museum attraction. After all, the last thing he needs is the site of his dream ranch turning into a tourist trap. He’ll work on the project, if only to hasten its failure…until the beautiful, quirky woman in charge starts to change his mind.

For the first time ever, Merry has a gorgeous stud hot on her heels. But can she trust this strong, silent man, even if he is a force of nature in bed? When Shane’s ulterior motives come out, he’ll need to prove to Merry that a love like theirs may be too hot to handle, but it’s impossible to resist.

I absolutely loved Merry. She was nerdy and dorky and shy, with a sense of fun and enthusiasm and kindness and intellectual curiosity, and I wanted to be her friend. (My Goodreads review: “I laughed so hard through this whole book, and then the ending snuck up and made me cry.”) Read this book!

The Best Kind of Trouble is the first book in Lauren’s Hurley Boys series:

She has complete control…and he鈥檚 determined to take it away

thebestkindoftrouble-250x375A librarian in the small town of Hood River, Natalie Clayton鈥檚 world is very nearly perfect. After a turbulent childhood and her once-wild ways, life is now under control. But trouble has a way of turning up unexpectedly—especially in the tall, charismatically sexy form of Paddy Hurley…

And Paddy is the kind of trouble that Natalie has a taste for.

Even after years of the rock and roll lifestyle, Paddy never forgot the two wickedly hot weeks he once shared with Natalie. Now he wants more…even if it means tempting Natalie and her iron-grip control. But there鈥檚 a fine line between well-behaved and misbehaved—and the only compromise is between the sheets!

New contest: "Romancing the Duke" by Tessa Dare

ETA: This contest is closed. Jen won the book.

romancing the duke coverThis month I’m giving away a signed paperback of Romancing the Duke by Tessa Dare, plus swag!

If you haven’t read the first book in the Castles Ever After series, what are you waiting for, seriously? I adore Izzy (who has inherited a castle unexpectedly!) and Ransom (who is NOT DEAD thank you very much, this is HIS castle and he’s not leaving!). Ransom is the only person who sees Izzy as a woman, and not her famous father’s wide-eyed little girl (a trope I always love). Best of all, Izzy’s father wrote serial medieval stories, and there are fans and LARPers and fandom tropes, and it’s awesome.

The back-cover copy:

As the daughter of a famed author, Isolde Ophelia Goodnight grew up on tales of brave knights and fair maidens. She never doubted romance would be in her future, too. The storybooks offered endless possibilities.

And as she grew older, Izzy crossed them off. One by one by one.

Ugly duckling turned swan?
Abducted by handsome highwayman?
Rescued from drudgery by charming prince?

No, no, and鈥 Heh.

Now Izzy鈥檚 given up yearning for romance. She鈥檒l settle for a roof over her head. What fairy tales are left over for an impoverished twenty-six year-old woman who鈥檚 never even been kissed?

This one.
