New contest: “A Night to Surrender” and “A Week to be Wicked” by Tessa Dare

ETA: This contest is closed.

Tessa Dare’s third Spindle Cove book, A Lady by Midnight, is out this week, so I thought it would be a good time to give away the first two books in the series!

Book 1: A Night to Surrender. Spindle Cove is Susanna Finch’s brainchild: a community for troubled women, where they can be free to be themselves without having to worry about men.

“Here in Spindle Cove, young ladies enjoy a wholesome, improving atmosphere.” Susanna indicated a knot of ladies clustered by the hearth, industriously engaged in needlework. “See? The picture of good health and genteel refinement.”

In unison, the young ladies looked up from their work and smiled placid, demure smiles.

Excellent. She gave them an approving nod.

Ordinarily, the ladies of Spindle Cove would never waste such a beautiful afternoon stitching indoors. They would be rambling the countryside, or sea bathing in the cove, or climbing the bluffs. But on days like these, when new visitors came to the village, everyone understood some pretense at propriety was necessary.

But when the government decides Spindle Cove could be a target for a landing by Napoleon’s forces, Victor Bramwell is sent to organize a militia. Suddenly Spindle Cove is full of men, and Susanna’s peaceful community is at risk.

What I love most about this book is that the hero is an alpha…and so is the heroine. Watching them fight and maneuver and flirt to come out on top as the chief authority in Spindle Cove is incredibly awesome! (And sexy…) Plus there’s lots of heartwrenching family drama and a fantastic cast of minor characters (out of which I hope to see many more books!).

But even more than A Night to Surrender, I love:

Book 2: A Week to Be Wicked. And this one’s signed by the author!

Geologist and spinster Miranda Highwood wants two things: keep rake Colin Sandhurst away from her sister, and get to Edinburgh in time to present at a scientific conference. She decides to kill two birds with one stone and talks Colin into pretending to elope with her to Scotland.

This book contains so many of my favorite things, I don’t even know where to start: geek heroines, fossils, a rake who’s a rake because he can’t sleep when he’s alone in the bed (seriously, one of my favorite tropes EVER), a roadtrip, making up exciting fake identities together, making out “just to see what it’s like”…the list goes on. Miranda and Colin are both so precious and heartbreaking and I love them madly.

Just comment on this post to enter, and make sure you enter your e-mail address on the comment form–it won’t show up to other commenters, but I’ll get it and then I can easily notify you of your win. As always, if you want to be alerted when a new contest goes up, I recommend signing up for my newsletter.

NB: I got AWtBW signed at the RWA National Conference. Ms. Dare isn’t involved in the giveaway and the book isn’t personalized. So if you want to tell her how much you loved her books, this isn’t the place. That would be her website. (But this IS the place to tell ME how much you loved it!)

  1. I already have the books – they are fabulous 🙂 I liked Week to be Wicked best, though the newest one that just came out is a close second (and might win on re-reading).
I just saw the news that Amazon bought Dorchester and thought of you. Are you moving to Amazon, going to another publisher, or going indie? Whichever way you go, I’m looking forward to your next book!

    1. I haven’t read the new one yet, but it’s on my Kindle and next on my list once I finish Ruthie Knox’s Ride With Me! I’ve loved what I’ve seen of Kate and Thorne in the earlier books…and I still need to read the novella, which is also on my Kindle!
Thank you! I elected not to move to Amazon…hopefully I’ll officially have my rights back soon! From there, me and my agent need to have a conversation and decide what makes the most sense. If we sell my next book to a traditional publisher (which is probably our first choice at this point–we’re shopping it to editors RIGHT NOW eeee!), they might also want my backlist…I promise I’ll let everyone know as soon as I have concrete plans!

  2. I love her books. I’ve been reading her since her first trilogy came out. I can’t wait to read a Week to be Wicked! Whether I win it, or get to it on my To Read list. 😀

    1. I read her first book when it came out and loved it, but then somehow she dropped off my radar till a year or two later by which time she’d written about six more books, which was exciting because I could read them all in a go. I think Twice Tempted by a Rogue is still my favorite because innkeeper heroines! damaged heroes! but they are all fantastic, aren’t they? A Lady of Persuasion is another favorite, maybe because I like to write political-set books myself.

    1. I couldn’t agree more. 🙂 Sarah has EXCELLENT taste–and her rec of Goddess of the Hunt was where I first heard about Tessa Dare too!

  3. These sound delightful! I read a short by Tessa Dare in one of Julia Quinn’s books, but never one of her novels.

  4. Eeeeee! I love books with non-nauseating characters! I heartily enjoy watching two strong people riposte and parry as they try to work the other into their own lives. Also, please forgive my grammar in that last sentence; I am not sure how it ought to have been.

    1. Your grammar was right on! It sounds like the book is right up your alley. 🙂 (Although I doubt many people go out of their way to read books with nauseating characters…)

  5. i hope this is open to international? i love ms dare’s books!
three nights with a scoundrel, goddess of the hunt and week to be wicked is a favorite. still would love to enter.
    excellent contest.

    1. It absolutely is! I should have mentioned that. My favorite is Twice Tempted by a Rogue, I think (closely followed by Lady of Persuasion)!

    1. Sarah has recommended many awesome books to me over the years! Are you as impatient for Unspoken as I am? I know it’s only like another week but I CAN’T WAIT!

  6. Hi Rose –
I love Tessa’s books but getting to a book store has been a challenge since they closed our only local book store. I’ve been hoping to get the books in Tessa’s Spindle Cove series since the first book was released and would love to win copies of A Night to Surrender and A Week to be Wicked!
Fortunately I recently finally got a Kindle so I don’t have to worry anymore about her books when they are released! I’ve already pre-ordered A Lady at Midnight so it will soon magically appear on my Kindle but I’d love to read these books first!

  7. Hi Rose,
How lovely of you to offer these books to your readers! Please enter my name in your contest.
Tessa Dare writes delightful books. 🙂
You write wonderful books, too. I hope you find a new publisher soonest. 🙂

  8. I don’t have either of these books. But I’ve read good things about the Spindle Cove series. I’d love to add them to my library. My b’day was Aug. 11. Belated giftie perhaps? 😉
